Invitation

The International Glass Studio / „Goszthony Mária” Foundation is organising the International Glass Art Symposium at its centre based at Bárdudvarnok from the 13th until the 22nd of August 2023, for which you are cordially invited to participate.

The Studio is located at the south of Hungary near the city of Kaposvár. The centre is in an old listed building and has been accommodating the symposions since 1991.

The price of participation is 150 €. Accommodation will be in the nearby houses within walking distance, with one hot and two cold dishes served daily.

During of the symposium there will be opportunities to try out new ideas and for conversations with makers from the same craft. In the evenings we are planning to have talks about the artworks of the invited artists so please prepare a small talk.

We can offer an approximately 3×2 hour slot in front of the furnace (to be arranged on the first day), our glassblower, James Carcass, will be helping you at the furnace.

We would like to ask you to send us a few sketches indicating what you would like to make so we can prepare for it as best as we can. It can be sent to the bardibukkglass@glassart.hu email address in pdf format.

Technical possibilities:

Hot works: approximately 80 kg furnace, clear glass, some colour is available in the format of rods and powders, casting form the furnace, graal technique

Lampwork: with István Herczeg

Electric kilns: different sizes electric kilns for casting és fusing – crystal fritt is available for working.

Cutting: flat bed, rough cutting wheel, some diamond cutting wheels,  

Further cold working: Painting and gilding

Mould making works: In the plaster room, plaster and quartz will be available

Half of the objects you make will become part of the collection of the International Glass Studio / „Goszthony Mária” Foundation. The art pieces made during the symposium will be shown at the closing exhibition and ceremony at the Centre.

This symposium is part of the cultural programs at the “Zselic’s Soul Festival / Bárdudvarnok Cultural Week” so there will be concerts, theatre and other events in the evenings.
